What a trip! ISAK 4x4 provided a well maintained Land Rover Defender for our trip. Recommend the Arctic Truck version for the river crossings and bumpy roads. Their initial briefing is important. keep and eye on the road map (app available) as this lets you keep updated with road closures.

Fantastic company, had a great experience! Good, well-maintained, improved off-road Land Rovers. Clean, nice maintenance garage. Good instructions before getting in a vehicle, driving off-road, and in general driving in Iceland. Highly, highly recommend. Had a fantastic vacation thanks to this company and their Rovers.

We rented a Land cover defender from ISAK for one day while we were in Iceland. It was the best decision. We called one day in advance, and they had a car we could rent for one day. The employers were so kind and helpful, both on the phone and when we came to pick up the car. We got a good introduction to the car, and they helped us with which F-roads we could drive. I can highly recommend this company and we would definitely rent a car here if we are going to Iceland again.

I rented a Defender from ISAK on our recent 2 week trip to Iceland. First off their location is. very inconvenient not near the airport and 30 minutes outside Reykjavik in the opposite direction of the airport. When I picked up the vehicle, it was in awful shape with dents, creases, rust and cracked paint in multiple body panels. The interior also had substantial damage and wear including holes in the carpet and parts missing/damaged. When showing me how to operated the vehicle, the agent struggled to get it into low gear. They had no other available vehicles and I assumed all offroad 4x4s in Iceland were in this shape. I did purchase incremental insurance with a lower deductible which they recommend including sand and gravel damage.

While we were inside the blue lagoon on a very windy day, one of the door panels was further damaged (small dent & cracked door handle) which likely happened due to a neighboring car hitting the door, or perhaps due to rock begin kicked up by another large vehicle on drive to Blue Lagoon. When we returned the vehicle, they noted that damage, but said my incremental insurance did not apply, that the dent was not repairable and they said it would cost another $2500+ to repair. This is on top of the $4155 they charged me initially for the rental and incremental insurance.

Since the vehicle was in such awful shape when I rented it with dents, creases, rust and cracked paint on multiple panel, I suspect they may have charged prior renters for insurance and damage, but never even repaired the vehicles. Please take a look at the pictures show all the damage on the vehicle when I picked it up, and that does not even show the wear and damage to the interior.

I strongly advise not renting from this disreputable company and going with one of the reputable rental car companies near the airport. And if you do decide to rent from them, do not agree to rent vehicle ISAK3$ which is in awful shape. This is my third time renting a Defender on my Iceland trips and the first two times were a much, much better experience with companies you can trust.

Renting a Super Defender from ISAK was probably the best decision I've ever made in Iceland. The rugged reliability of these machines allows you to go places where the crowds aren't—places where you can just sit and soak in the wonder. Also, they let you ford rivers, which was one of my favorite things to do. My buddy and I crossed more than 50 streams, rivers, and ponds. The customer service was great. Our representative was informative and engaging.

We rented a Land Rover Defender from Isak for our 2-week long trip, with the addition of a rootop tent.
The car was our home for the entire duration of the trip and for 2 people it was perfect.
This was the first time for us, renting such a monster of a machine but we put her through her paces on the route to Maelifell at the start of October, which meant:
- river crossings
- steep inclines on rough roads
- icy roads and snow

It was a bit intimidating but we learned how to drive the car, it has definitely seen some use before us but besides the sensitive gear shift it was solid and I was glad I chose this car for our little expedition.

Runar was very helpful and acommodated our late pickup at the start, as well as explaining the ins-and-outs of the car.

The rooftop tent was definitely a great addition too; it comes as an easy pop-up tent with a ladder, and includes a matress, so we didn't end up needing our isolation mattresses for our sleeping bags at all (still recommend bringing them, if you intend to camp at colder temperatures).

We did end up loosing one of the screws that fasten one of the supports for the rooftop tent to the top of the car - and I only had the Sand & Gravel insurance booked, but they didn't charge us for the screw because they found a spare 😀 - absolute standup guys for that!

Please manage your expectation that these are not polished, factory-brand-new cars. We booked them with the intention of bringing us safe to the most isolated parts in Iceland, so a ripped lining of the cars interior is no reason for us to deduct stars.

We will be returning to Iceland to go into the Westfjords (turns out 2 weeks is not enough for the whole island) and we will book with ISAK4x4 again!
