Absolutely highly recommend staying here and booking with them. We booked the self-guided tour on Laugavegur trail which they help us book all the huts which made it so easy. Rates were very fair which is why we opted to book with them instead of booking ourselves. But best of all, when weather conditions forced us to have itinerary changes, they were very fast and responsive and made all the changes we needed taking all the stress out of the situation. When fellow hikers were trying to figure out how to rebook their bus tickets, our original tickets were fully refunded and new tickets booked in 5 minutes. Plus we were able to get full refunds instantly of unused portions of our trip. For the peace of mind and a stress free vacation in a place where things can change any minute, highly recommend booking with Volcano Huts.

The accommodations themselves were also wonderful and the best out of all the huts. Dorms were large, clean and spacious with indoor toilet facilities. The breakfast and dinner buffets were generous and delicious. The unlimited, included hot shower was downright luxurious. And the sauna was hot and felt wonderful after 4 days on the trail. Staff was also super kind. All in all we were very glad we booked with Volcano Huts for the self guided tour as well as the wonderful facilities for a mountain hut.

Not sure what was the issue with the front desk guy. Both times I went to the office the man behind the counter was just not cooperating. I said hello when I wanted to check in, no response, he kept his head down with his cap looking on his phone. I waived still no response. Next day I went back with another person (on the left in the picture) the man tried to get his attention with no success, he kept looking down on his phone. He seems absolutely not enthusiastic and interested in being there. Why not hiring someone else? This is a fabulous place and the vacationers deserves better service than this. Other than that food was expensive but good. Free shower was nice

I stayed here with 10 of my friends after doing the Fimmvorduhals hike. Absolutely perfect campsite and restaurant in a very remote place! You have electricity, running water, heating, and some basic kitchen appliances (stove too!) in the huts.

The restaurant is a common area as well, you can hang around, play board games, drink some beers, and eat good food. The prices are really fair especially considering the location.
You have clean toilets, showers, a sauna, free wi-fi, a free storage room, a larger common kitchen, and everything is very clean and well situated.

The staff is very friendly, helpful, and patient. Michael helped us get there when we couldn't find the bridge over Krossá in the dark, and waited for us even after reception closed at 23:00. I asked a bunch of questions while I was there and he and the other staff was very helpful.

Overall, its a 5/5 experience. I have nothing negative to say about this place. I could just chill here for days, it's very cozy friendly and inviting.

There's a small hike right next to the campsite, if you're tired from the Fimmvorduhals hike and youre waiting for your afternoon bus back home, do this quick hike in 2 hours to get a really cool panoramic view of Thor's valley:
Follow the white trail all the way up to the top. When you come down, turn left on the green trail and follow it on the crest then back to the huts.

We only stayed for one night and hiked up Valahnjúkur which was steep for someone who isn't a regular hiker but we were able to take our time and make it up to fantastic views. The hut itself was quite pleasant and the shared kitchen/waiting area was lovely to get a bite to eat and share some time with others passing through.

I was in the dorm. Cleaniless was so so, not terrible, but probably the worse of all the huts in the trail. Recepcionist was nice but not very knowlwdge. Good thing, there was free hot shower inside. Most important the HOT POOLS ARE NOT HOT, only lukewarm at 20 something degrees.
