Looking towards the uninhabited Grotta island when it is closed, with empty buildings afar and the sandbar and electric pole partly submerged in the rising tide, I am reminded of scenes out of Hayao Miyazaki's movie Spirited Away.

The sights facing the mountains are pretty and the trail winds itself towards the island tip. The beach here smells of salt, seaweed and bird droppings. The beach is covered in soft black sand.

The bushes here are popular with Swallows that land themselves precariously on the road with car traffic.

Loved this place. Beautiful photo spot with amazing views. It can be very windy, but it is definitely a stop to consider. You will love it too. Highly recommended!

This place is magical at sunset during the winter, have not being there during summer to compare. It is situated at the end of a long walking/biking stretch along the seashore. Plenty of parking places and a perfect place for Northern Lights chasers. You can see Akranes across the ocean at the foot of the Blue Mointains and when the sun goes down, Akranes is bathed in a bright orange light that casts also a surreal light on the mountains.
Bottom line, go there for the sunset, stay for the Aurora Borealis.
Just remember to shut off your headlights so you don't pollute people's pictures of the night sky.

If you have a hire car when visiting Iceland, it is worth having an explore. This walk offers some spectacular views of the countryside surrounding Reykjavík. If you check when the tide is in/out, you can walk out to the lighthouse.
Nearby are some traditional drying racks to remind us of the history of the area.

Seems like a nice spot to see northern lights if you go at the right time of the year.

This is the northwest peak of Reykjavik and you can even walk to it. It's great thing to be and enjoy while both sides when water embrace and make an island this peninsula or it's totally dry out. Then you can visit and enjoy the view. 🙂

Beautiful photo spot for watching Northern lights. Hundreds of co-watchers 😁😁 Beam of John Lennon invisible from here too.. Many people come here on a scooter. It can be very windy but what is really windy in Iceland 😁I was not there during day so I do not know how it looks like during day light. Next time
