I’m experience traveller with years of experience with the car rentals.I have choose the Reykjavik Rent a Car recently as they advertise guarantied models and their prices are great too.
I had an excellent check in and car pulled in at front door in the condition as expected.During the rental I have decided to extend for longer time .Kristin S from customers support went beyond the expectation and helped me in excellent manners and in no time to extend my rental.The same thing when returned the car.Quick and professional service.
I’m delighted with my choice and I will be defiantelly returning again.

I would not recommend this rental car service at all. I was travelling in a group of 7 people and rented a 9 seater and this rental car service provided us a terrible vehicle in addition to a lacklustre customer experience which provided the passengers' lives at risk.

We faced the following problems:
- Brake pads worn out
- 36,000 miles overdue for service
- Right parking light not working
- Dents on the car prior to pickup (we highlighted this on pickup but this was completely ignored)

When we raised this problem, it was not immediately addressed as no mechanic was sent to us to our accomodation despite false promises set on the website. In case of emergencies, we were put at a real risk driving such a faulty car.

I have attached pics and video of the experience to exemplify to concerns and would recommend using another rental car service elsewhere in Iceland.

I rented a Dacia Duster. The car was fit for the Icelandic dirt roads. The price is also nice. We delivered the car a few hours late because of weather challenges, but the rental company understood the situation and was nice. Keep in mind that they are located outside the city center.

Stay with brand name avis, budget, hertz etc. Do not waste money, here. He is going to make you buy platinum option no matter what you select from site out of silver, gold and platinum. otherwise they are going to ask $7k deposit for silver policy, $4k deposit for gold and platinum no deposit. High mileage car(140k), door do not close until pushed 2-3 times, with oil change soon sign, no back camera, very manual( no cruise control etc.)and bumpy ride even on automatic option. 4 days rental for average size car $1200.Beware!!!!

Finding the right car rental company was the most difficult decision we made for our Iceland vacation as there were so many horror stories of tourists getting scammed. Reykjavik Rent-a-car seemed to have much better reviews and prices, so we went with them. We also purchased the Gold insurance package as that limited us to 75000isk in risk.

We reserved a Toyota Rav4 (or similar) and were given a 2018 Hyundai Tucson with only 2000km. No complaints there. We had zero issues with the car and put a lot of miles on it. After a full 7 days, we returned it and they had us on our way after a quick examination of the car.

We then simply walked to the airport with our luggage as we just missed the previous shuttle. It was an easy & short walk and much better than waiting for the shuttle, of which we made the mistake of doing when first arriving.

I was confused originally when planning this trip as they have a very very similar website as SadCars. And the office includes 4 other rental companies, including SadCars. I'm thinking they're all the same, just different cars. Glad we chose the company with the new cars!

We'd definitely go through Recykjavik Rent a Car again next time in Iceland. Maybe things would have turned out different if we had attempted the F-Roads in the rain, but the regular roads offered us enough to see as-is!

This is the only rental company in Iceland I found that allows you to rent a car without a credit card. You just need to buy the platinum insurance (more expensive but at the same time you are covered for everything - zero self risk) and you can use your debit card during booking. The car was very nice, clean and fresh inside (small, but that's what we asked for). All the scratches and any damages were highlighted on the agreement.
We picked up the car at Keflavik airport, but we could still use the office in Reykjavik to add an extra driver. The service in both offices was great, we didn't have to wait long, and as it was my first time ever renting a car I was asking a lot of questions which the staff was happy to answer. Definitely would recommend, especially with the platinum package - no need to fear any extra charges to your card. Hopefully I'll return to Iceland at some point and will be happy to use Reykjavik Rent a Car again! 🙂

I rented a Toyota land cruiser. We were 6 people with luggage. Car was very well equipped. Car was not cleaned from the previous renters. The staff was friendly. Would recommend to friends.
